Consists of assorted items that document Conrad Meyer's career and family life. The collection includes Meyer's "Wanderbuch" with a record of the time he spent as an apprentice and journeyman in Marburg, guild rules (printed), and a list of cities in which he sought work. A fragment of a letter with a hand colored picture of a soldier, and a list of the birth dates of family members also represent Meyer's years in Germany. Letters from business associates provide evidence of the respect Meyer received as a piano maker, while a letter from his wife reveals something of the daily operations of the business. Trade cards (one by Louis Prang), circulars, and a trade catalog further describe the business. Also included are Meyer's naturalization paper (1836), his U.S. passport (1851), photographs of family members, his obituary, and family birth records. Also included are passports for Charles E. Meyer, and marriage certificates for Conrad and Martha Reed Meyer and for Charles E. and Mary Yearsley Meyer.

Louis Prang was born in Germany where took an active part in the Revolution of 1848. After emigrating to the U.S. Prang served as a mapper during the Civil War and transferred these skill to the business of printingg and lithography. Conrad Meyer was a cabinetmaker and later a piano manufacturer. He was born on September 18, 1793 in Marburg, Hesse Cassel, Germany. He was a soldier during the war with Napolean during 1814 and 1815. Meyer served a four year apprenticeship with a cabinetmaker in Marburg, which he completed on May 13, 1818.
